The all England tennis club is famous for it’s strict all white dress code. SW19’s rules demand that competitors wear ‘tennis attire that is almost entirely white’.
Players who wish to add a splash of colour can do so only to the tune of one centimetre of trim around the neckline or cuff.
But this hasn’t stopped players pushing their luck at Wimbledon and causing controversy with their on court attire over the years.

1949 – Gussie Moran’s knickers
We couldn’t do a Wimbledon round-up without including Gussie Moran who was the first lady to flash her underwear at Wimbledon.
When Gussie revealed her lace-trimmed knickers on centre court she caused quite a furore. Accused of “putting sin and vulgarity into tennis” the all England Club was concerned about the effect on the royal family.
